How often should I change the filter in my home?
This is a question I am probably asked the most. I think the reason I get asked this the most is that there is no one correct answer. The reason being is that the environment that you live in plays a huge role in how often you need to change your filter. I have heard many answers over the years ranging from every 35 days to every 3 months. The fact of the matter is, as i mentioned previously, it depends on your house. A lot of people want to associate filter changes with how dusty their house is, this could be a factor but most of the time the dust is a result of something else. For instance, we have 4 dogs and 6 cats, i need to change my filters quite often. If you are animal free then you will not need to change them as often as I do. The best way to tell that you need to change a filter is to write the date on it the next time you change it. Then check it weekly and when it becomes a light grey, starting to show signs of dirt/dust, it needs to be changed. Do this for about 3-4 filter changes and as long as the conditions in the house do not change drastically that should be your schedule. If you are still having issues with dust and believe it or not allergies, you may want to consider a UV light. I would wait until after about 6 months of regular filter changes before making that leap though.
